HOME SUPPORT

Care giving for a loved one is difficult emotionally and physically exhausting.

RESPITE and assistance with activities of daily living is offered to caregivers of people who suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, strokes, cancer, and frail health.

  • No medical referral is needed. A NOVA nurse will visit the home and with the caregiver will develop a plan of support for both the patient and the caregiver.
  • On a scheduled basis, trained NOVA health aides will provide help with personal grooming, movement, treatment and medication as well as several other activities in the home.
  • Caregivers can take worry-free time off to run errands, keep appointments or simply relax.

IN-HOME NURSING

Professional registered nurses visit patients in the home to offer nursing care, as well as information, counselling and support to acutely ill and post-operative patients, and to those suffering from long-term illnesses.

CHILDREN'S SERVICES

  • Caring for a chronically ill child can be emotionally and physically exhausting. NOVA Home Health Aides provide in-home respite for parents of children with special needs.
  • A referral from a health care professional is required. A nurse from NOVA will visit the home and with the caregiver will develop a plan of support for the family and the child.
  • On a scheduled basis, for a minimum of 6 hours per week, a specially trained NOVA Home Health Aide will provide the personal services that would normally be assured by the parent or caregiver.

YOUTH SERVICES

A NOVA nurse provides health care, support and counseling to street youth in partnership with Dans la Rue.

PALLIATIVE CARE

People who are terminally ill are choosing to die at home, in familiar surroundings. The NOVA team can help by providing support and comfort to both the patient and the family during this difficult time.

On-call nursing coverage is provided 24 hours/ day, 7 days per week.

This service is delivered by an interdisciplinary team that provides sensitive and skilled care to meet the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of both the patient and the family.

  • The NOVA nurse manages control of symptoms such as pain and nausea. Active involvement of a physician is a prerequisite.
  • Bereavement support is also available to families.

FOOT CARE

Studies show that proper footcare prolongs independence and mobility among seniors. NOVA offers FOOTCARE CLINICS which are helpful to those with decreased vision, diabetes, arthritis, and other conditions causing difficulties in maintaining foot health. In home foot care is also available.

FOOTCARE CLINICS are regularly offered at a number of community based organisations, such as senior’s centres, retirement and nursing homes.

  • People attending the clinics receive advice on health issues and expert footcare by professional registered nurses.
  • Clients are taught how to correctly look after their feet in order to maintain or restore foot health.

FOOTCARE CLINIC FOR HIGH RISK FEET: Assessment and care for clients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and circulatory problems who might be at risk for possible foot complications.

HEALTH CARE TRAINING

NOVA Montréal offers individualized training in patient care for nurses and other health care workers. This service is available to individuals and organizations interested in improving their skills in patient care.
